In conjunction with the 14 or 15 states that are challenging certain aspects of the Health Care Reform Act commonly referred to as “Obamacare” via law suits; Congressman Ron Paul today introduced HR4995, a very narrowly focused bill that would repeal the Mandated Health Insurance clause of the bill.

I still haven’t quite grasped how anyone could possibly consider this mandate “regulating interstate commerce”, especially when regulating interstate commerce was specifically put into the constitution to stop states from putting in place laws that would restrict the importation and exportation of goods from other states, but they do.

The constitutional aspect of it was meant to keep trade free and open, not so the federal government could mandate you buy something in the name of interstate commerce. Obviously, this mandate is not constitutional and will more than likely be overturned in court.

If you think about that though, is that good or bad? Remember, the entire Obamacare plan is hinged on the aspect of increased taxes and forcing everyone into the system with this mandate. Without the mandate in place, Obama will have no choice but to increase taxes yet even further to fund the astronomical cost of obamacare.

Repealing the mandate will simply cause the Obamacare plan in it’s entirety to just fall apart. The likelihood of HR4995 passing is very probable because even for democrats it gives them a way to save face for the elections. But we know for certain that Speaker Pelosi won’t call the bill to the floor for a vote anytime soon, so we might have to wait until the next congress.

Having said that, there is still hope and several things you can do. Contact your congressman today and tell them to co-sponsor HR4995, if enough cosponsors can be gathered, it is possible to over ride the speakers agenda. Tell your congressman that you believe in freedom of choice and the mandate violates that principle.

You can’t simply demand someone buy health insurance based on the assumption they will need it someday. You can’t simply tell someone that just by being a live they have to pay for something they may not want or use. Imagine if we mandated car insurance based on the assumption that one day you will need it, even if you don’t own a car. Not everyone needs health insurance, remember, over 75% of the health care spending is spent on nearly 100% preventable and reversible diseases that are caused by choice. These people have chosen to ignore any health standards, they eat terrible food, don’t exercise, and live in high stress environments.

You see, they made the choice to get sick, over 99% of the time, things like heart disease, diabetes, cancers, strokes, and the list goes on all fall into the category of preventable diseases. The most important thing to note though is, these people MADE a choice to get sick, if they can make that choice, why aren’t we allowed the freedom to choose whether or not we will buy insurance? Why has the choice been made for us that forces us to pay for insurance we might not want or need just to pay for the choices of others?

I’m not against helping the rare amount of people who I feel are victims of circumstance, but these are easily handled by donations and charity, you simply cannot force people to help other people or provide them services.

Support HR4995 and take a step in the right direction.
