One of the first items we bought when we moved into this house together was a box that contained one hundred trash bags, there are some left, but like the flower in the beauty and the beast, it seems that their time is running out.
The trash bags soon became a token of longevity for us and we regularly commented on how long they had lasted. Because it was one of the first items we purchased together, it instantly became a symbol of our new beginning. That box of one hundred trash bags have more meaning to us than to just take out the trash.
It has been over 6 months since we bought that box of trash bags and there are still some left. Some days we use more than one and sometimes one will last a few days at a time, but this is merely a reflection of the activity in our lives.
Sometimes the sky is clear, there is no wind, and the surface of the lake is calm and unwavering. But at other times the wind is blowing hard, the sky is full of dark clouds, and the waves come crashing to shore. Such is the progression of life.
There are times of heavy activity where the trash piles up and they are followed by moments of calm and serenity where it’s as if there is no trash at all. Such is life.
Some people have trash compactors, some have garbage pickup at the curb, while others load their trash into the back of a pickup truck to take it to the dump – we all have our own way of dealing with the trash in our lives.
As I go into the cupboards expecting this to be the last bag, I’m somehow relieved to find there are still more in there. Yet I know that eventually this box of garbage bags will run out. But so does life.
Behold, for when you think your days are numbered you’ll somehow find just one more. And the reality is that when you think you’ve many days left they suddenly aren’t there.
Learn as if you’ll live forever, dream as if time doesn’t matter, love as if you’re only chance is right now, and live without regret – enjoy your life.
