There are a lot of complex issues and problems in the world today. Some of you may be surprised at how complex humans have made their lives with the use of technology. Technology has enabled us to work less, be lazy more, and worry about things that were almost unfathomable even 20 years ago.

As technology increases and humans have more time to think and be lazy, the problems that arise from living in this society are rampantly rising and the perceived complexity of some of these problems is so great, that many people spend a large portion of their lives looking for a solution to them.

It seems to me that when you take a step back and look at some of these problems that they have easy and very simple solutions and aren’t complicated at all. But it also seems to me is that people don’t want an easy answer or simple solution, they want things to be hard and complex, if they were able to solve everything within minutes, they would be bored and there’d be nothing left for them to do, no challenges left in life.

Think of some of the complex issues that people dedicate their lives to, like retirement. Imagine if retirement could be solved in an hour, most people spend their entire lives working and building toward this magical retirement age of 55 or 65, but what happens when you solve that problem for them? Well, first off, they wouldn’t have any idea what to do with themselves. Retirement was never a huge issue until the industrial boom early in the 20th century. Before then, people had huge estates or even just a house, and they invested in their family. They had their own farms, were self supportive, and had children who would take care of them. Old people back then weren’t such a burden as old people are now, most of them were active and healthy and actually useful to have around the house. They would pass their work and the work done before them onto their children so retirement was never an issue.

Retirement became a huge issue when we started to convince people they can’t work for themselves and need to go off to a big city and seek high paying jobs. That severed the last major family tie and dependency factor where now it’s necessary for you to save for retirement. Not only because medical expenses and being old is really really expensive due to bad diets, habits, poor exercise, and stress leaving you with many chronic illnesses in old age. But also because you don’t live with, won’t live with, and probably can’t live with your family because they haven’t been building the estate that people used to have back in the day. Plus, you get accustomed to having all this fantastic disposable technology, it’s hard to go back.

There’s a simple solution to every complex problem, if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. The simple solution is to remember that just 100 years ago everyone had their own small business and were self-sustaining. You can rebuild a relationship with your family and invest in them still to this day. Getting a job or working for someone else may be a good start to modern day life, but you should always have some type of exit strategy. At some point you may want to take your earnings and invest in your own business, invest in yourself, or just invest to gain passive income and become self-sustaining.
