Being Content is a Dream Crusher

Ever wonder why you don’t get all the things out of life that you feel you deserve? Ever look at another person envious of how “lucky” they are? Have you ever thought to yourself, “There has to be something more to life than this?”

One of the biggest things holding you back from getting what you really want is yourself. This has become a very over used cliche that nobody stops to really think about.

It’s about being more than your own worst enemy and constantly screwing up. It’s the very subtle things that you don’t even realize you’re doing to yourself.

It’s the way that you talk to yourself — your inner dialogue is always screwing you over. It talks you out of pursuing opportunities and tricks you into believing that you don’t really need or want something.

Being content is a dream crusher.

Whenever you ask somebody how they’re doing they usually respond with phrases like “fine” or “okay.”

And you have to stop and think about this for a second because these people aren’t being honest with you.

Are they really fine carrying around that extra 40 pounds of weight? Are they really fine working a dead end job? Are they fine with their position in life, their family, and their relationships?

There’s always something that could use improvement, there’s always something to achieve, there’s always something to strive toward, some goal to reach, there’s always something more out there — when you convince yourself there isn’t you stop growing.

If you’re content then you’re not living life to the fullest, unless you’re content because you have chosen to do everything within your power to live life to the fullest which included admitting to yourself and others that you are not just “fine.”

Life is about the journey not the destination, being fine or content means that you’ve arrived at your final destination. When you arrive at your final destination your life purpose has been achieved, there is nothing left for you to accomplish in this world, and your life is literally done and over.

So why do people lie to themselves and to others?

They do it because it’s easy.

If you convince yourself that you’re fine it requires you to do nothing more because you’ve convinced yourself that you don’t have any problems, that you have nothing to improve upon in your life, or that there is nothing else that could be better than it is.

If you’re shitty, then say you’re shitty, if you’re f’ing awesome, then say hey I’m f’ing awesome. Fine just doesn’t cut it and you’re doing yourself a great disservice by buying into that cop out mentality.

Being content means there are no more challenges to face, no adversity to overcome, basically there’s nothing left for you to do except just stay where you are in life and be “fine.”

Your feelings have deceived you.

You don’t do things because you don’t feel like doing things, but honestly, nobody feels like doing things, because they are so hard. People don’t feel like going to work, to school, or even to their family thanksgiving.

But they go anyways.

They go because they force themselves to go. Sometimes it takes a lot of force to get your ass in gear.

Forget motivation, forget inspiration, force yourself to get up and do what you need to do to get what you really want and the rest will fall into place.

Let’s be honest, you’re never going to feel like it. Don’t tell yourself you’ll start tomorrow, or next week, or next year — do it now instead, yes, right now!

The same excuses and justifications you have for not doing something right now will still exist tomorrow. If you don’t break through that barrier you’re never going to feel like doing it, you’re never going to be inspired, and you’re never going to be motivated.

Nothing you do from that point on will matter because you can’t get passed the barriers that you created for yourself to get the hard things done that lead to the rewards you want.

It doesn’t matter how late it is, it doesn’t matter if you’re tired, it doesn’t matter if you have to get up in 4 hours, it doesn’t matter if you’re sick, there is literally nothing that really matters. Stop with the excuses no matter how good you think you are. All you are doing is convincing yourself, and probably others, that your excuses are acceptable or well justified.

Another day goes by and a lot of good your excuses did for you because you’re not a single step closer to getting what you really want.

best destiny quote

Sometimes people make excuses to get out of things they don’t want to do for others, but what about the things you want for yourself?

If you convince yourself that you have a legitimate excuse or reason for not doing something, then you’ve really cheated yourself out of the life you deserve.

So think about where you are today and where you want to be tomorrow, next week, next year, or 10 years from now.

Write down or make a mental note of what the very first step of that is and then get off your ass and go do it right now.

If you put down lose weight, then you had better be reading this blog while you’re on your phone and out for a walk or jog.

If it’s go back to school, you better be checking out enrollment information and printing forms to take in as soon as the school opens.

If it’s to get a better job, you had better be searching for jobs right now and getting your resume ready to apply.

It doesn’t matter what it is you want to do or when you want to do it, everything begins with a first step, and the right time to take that first step is before you even finish reading this sentence.

Are you still reading?

I hope you aren’t, I hope you closed this blog out halfway through and you’re working on getting yourself the life you deserve.

You only get one life to live, so make it worthwhile.
