Shape of You is a track from the Divide album by Ed Sheeran. It has been pushed around as a single and topped a lot of charts. It took me awhile to get accustomed to this type of song from Ed Sheeran as it seemed a bit different from the rest of his works. At first I wasn’t really sure about it, and while I don’t think it’s his best song, I’ve decided it’s not too bad.
So let’s see if we can make some sense of the song.
The club isn’t the best place to find a lover
So the bar is where I go
Me and my friends at the table doing shots
Drinking fast and then we talk slow Continue reading “The Meaning of Shape of You by Ed Sheeran”
I really enjoy some of Justin Bieber’s new music. His lyrics seem to be gaining more depth and meaning as he advances further into adulthood. Even though some of the lyrics in this song are kind of immature and “high schoolish” we can still find meaning and relate to the scenarios described in the lyrics well into adulthood and mature relationships.
One interesting thing I found out about this song is that it’s co-written by Ed Sheeran which perhaps explains the deeper meaning in the song as compared to some of his other work.
So let’s begin examining the lyrics for hidden and obvious meaning. Continue reading “The Meaning of Love Yourself by Justin Bieber”
We’ve all done things that we regret, things we can’t undo, things that maybe we wish could take back.
We all get to a point in our lives where we start to wonder about and reflect upon the decisions that we made that got us to the point we’re at.
We do this when we are at both good and bad points in our life. It happens spontaneously when we get free time we eventually reminisce and ask ourselves:
“How did I get here?”
“Would I have done anything differently?”
“Do I have any regrets?” Continue reading “The Meaning of Hello by Adele”
I don’t believe it was necessarily the song or its lyrics that made this song popular, but rather, the impressive voice of Sam Smith. There are 6 pieces of this song and 4 of them are the Chorus, while the lyrics are few, the impact of this song is massive.
The song dwells on the feelings, wants, and desires that can emerge from having a one night stand. If you’ve been there you can feel the song deep down inside. If you haven’t been there you can only imagine what it’s like to go from a very serious high to a very serious low upon realization that it isn’t going to last. If any song ever expressed the “I don’t care what others think attitude” this is the song that does it. While I’m not particularly a Taylor Swift fan I think she did a really good job of moving away from the realm of bad breakups and fantasy love stories that trumpeted as the theme of most of her other material.
When I first started paying attention to this song and it’s meaning it was because of the 2014 VMA performance. Until that point I had just passed this song off as so happy go lucky radio song that would have short term appeal to the masses for a quick buck or two.
After the VMA performance, reading the lyrics, and watching the visual representation in her music video; I had a change of heart. Continue reading “The Meaning of Shake It Off by Taylor Swift”
Both men and women that have been through tough relationships end up feeling like they aren’t worthy of being loved. The effects of a bad relationship can be so traumatizing that people end up building walls to avoid intimacy and commitment to others.
They begin to attach the feeling of pain and misery to the feeling of love. They know that although they might be able to fall in love with someone, in the end, they will only end up getting hurt. They have concluded that it’s better to avoid love entirely then to put themselves out there again only to be let down. Continue reading “The Meaning of Not a Bad Thing by Justin Timberlake”
This is one of the most beautiful love songs ever composed. It’s filled with brutal honesty, not just that fluffy fairy tale shit. The song is an admission that every relationship can have its issues and you can overcome them as long as you accept each other and give it your all.
Make someone your priority, make them your everything, and discover your happily ever after together.
What would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
This a reference to sarcasm and minor annoyances. Drawing me in and kicking me out can refer to kissing and then pushing someone away but in this reference it refers to verbal compliments and verbal insults, both an attraction and a repellent. This is a very touching song that can have a lot of meanings. It goes beyond relationships and into something much deeper — the regrets, worries, and significance of separation from a loved one.
Being separated from a good friend, family member, or significant other whether it’s from death, a breakup, or a fall out is one of the most traumatizing experiences we go through in life.
This song will resonate with a lot of people for different reasons. The versatility of the meaning of this song is simply impressive although most people that hear it will reflect on their relationship with a loved one. This song is all about being proud to be from humble origins and not needing the lifestyles of the rich and famous to be happy. The singer prefers to keep to her roots and to remember where she came from. She also makes references to how the media glorifies the fancy lifestyle and lures people into it.
These days everyone is following hollywoods actors and TV stars and getting involved with their lives more so than the people around them. They make it seem like these people are somehow superheroes instead of regular people like everyone else. Continue reading “The Meaning of Royals by Lorde”
This song is about exploring love, maybe for the first time. Love at first sight comes with strong feelings — feelings so powerful that you doubt their existence.
Remember the very first time you met someone and felt an immediate attraction?
You seem to have problems speaking to them because your mind runs wild with endless possibility. Your stomach is in knots, your heart is beating fast, and all you want to do is say hello without screwing it up.
You believe first impressions are really important, and you pray to God that the first words out of your mouth are words that will win them over forever, instead of making you seem like an idiot. You’d do anything, even kill someone if you had to, but this person was going to be yours if it’s the last thing you do on Earth.
